How should milk be consumed…?!
Milk (especially cow’s milk) is very cold and moist, making it difficult to digest for many people?!
Now imagine consuming this cold food with a cold temperature or ice…it becomes even harder to digest!
Always warm the milk and boil it with warm, digestive spices (such as saffron, cardamon, clove, cinnamon, turmeric, nutmeg, etc.)! Once it cools slightly, add 1–2 teaspoons of honey and enjoy… Honey is warm and dry, acting as a balancing agent for milk.
Some good spice combinations for one cup of milk…
1. A fingertip amount (about 1/8 teaspoon) of cardamom + a fingertip of saffron + a fingertip of cinnamon + a fingertip of rose petals.
2. 1/4 teaspoon turmeric + a fingertip of rose petals (beneficial for osteoporosis).
3. A fingertip each of chamomile, cardamom, nutmeg, and rose petals (beneficial for insomnia).
But when is the best time to drink milk?!
The ideal time is around 10:00–10:30 PM, before sleep… provided you have had an early and light dinner (around 7:00 PM) so that you feel some hunger before bed!
Drinking milk before sleep is very calming and helps promote deep sleep!
Can milk be consumed during the day?! Can we drink milk in the morning?!
In the morning, metabolism is slow, and undigested phlegm is abundant…Many people wake up with a congested nose, phlegm in the throat, allergy symptoms, and a feeling of heaviness.
If you drink cold milk with cornflakes or milk with bread and cheese at this time!!! you are essentially filling your digestive tract with phlegm, increasing heaviness, lethargy, drowsiness, and sluggishness?!
If you want to drink milk in the morning, wait until around 9:30–10:00 AM, when metabolism begins to speed up and digestive fire is stronger, and have a cup of warm, spiced milk. It is important not to eat lunch for three hours afterward, allowing the milk to fully digest!
Drinking milk at other times of the day is generally not recommended… because your digestive tract is usually full of other foods, which contain acidic enzymes!
For those with a Kapha (phlegm) constitution or an imbalance in Kapha, camel milk is preferable to cow’s milk… Camel milk is much lighter, digests quickly (within about 2 hours), and produces much less phlegm!
