Eating raw garlic or pickled garlic alongside meals is enjoyable for many of us. Telegram channels are also full of multiple recommendations about consuming one clove of raw garlic on an empty stomach daily for body detoxification. But for whom is garlic beneficial, and for whom is it harmful?
Garlic is a highly nutritious substance, it burns mucus and fat, lowers blood pressure, thins the blood, opens up the heart arteries, reduces cholesterol, and strengthens the immune system.
However, did you know that raw garlic is considered very hot, dry, and very potent? Daily and routine consumption can damage the lining of the digestive tract and cause gastrointestinal ulcers.
Continuous consumption of raw garlic in many people can also cause headaches, skin problems, hives, eczema, reflux, anger, and irritability. In Ayurveda, consuming raw garlic (and onions) is generally not recommended due to increased irritability and agitation.
So how should we consume garlic?
Always consume garlic cooked. The remedy for garlic is to sauté or cook it in natural fats and oils such as coconut oil, ghee, olive oil, avocado oil, etc. Also, if you have chronic skin problems and love garlic, add fresh coriander along with garlic in your dishes.
If you insist on following the Telegram channel advice to eat raw garlic daily for detoxification, do not do it for more than one week.
