Quince and Apple Tea…?!

چای به و سیب

By Setareh Kiumarsi

Autumn is the season of quince and apple, and quince and apple tea usually becomes very popular during this time.

Apart from their pleasant flavor, both quince and apple help cleanse the liver and remove toxins from the digestive tract… However, it is important to note that tea made from these two fruits especially quince has a drying effect and acts as a strong remedy for diarrhea. In other words, this tea is astringent; it absorbs water from the intestines and can cause constipation in people who tend to have firm stools.

If your stool is usually firm and you still want to drink quince or apple tea, you should combine them with warming and digestive herbs such as cinnamon, fennel, or rose petals.

For people with firm stools:

Use the following combination:

* 3 parts fennel or broken cinnamon sticks

* 1 part dried quince or apple

* 1 part rose petals

This blend helps counteract the tea’s drying effect and makes it easier to digest.

If your stool is usually loose, use herbs with a mild drying and toning effect, such as cardamom or rosemary.

For people with loose stools:

Use the following combination:

* 3 parts cardamom or rosemary

* 1 part dried quince or apple

This mixture helps tone the intestines and balance excess moisture in the digestive system.
