Eating nuts… by the handful?

Nuts such as pistachios, almonds, peanuts, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, and others are considered warm and moist in Ayurveda.

They’re rich sources of protein and fiber, and many people eat one or two handfuls of these tasty snacks thinking they’re having a “healthy” snack.

But here’s the thing, nuts are dense and high in oil and fat, and when eaten dry and in large quantities, they become very heavy to digest.

Your body can take hours to break them down properly.

How to Eat Nuts the Right Way?!

The first step to making nuts easier to digest is to soak them for a few hours before eating!

Soaking reduces their density, makes them softer and lighter, and improves digestion!

If you soak almonds, always peel the skin before eating… the skin contains tannic acid, which can block nutrient absorption.

The Right Portion per Serving…?!

In one sitting, eat no more than 8–10 large nuts (like pistachios, almonds, cashews, or peanuts).

If you eat a full bowl of nuts at once, it can cause fatty liver, indigestion, and breakouts(pimples).

For smaller nuts and seeds (like sunflower, pumpkin, or watermelon seeds), limit yourself to no more than 1 tablespoon per serving!

The Best Ways to Consume Nuts?!

One of the best ways to eat nuts is to combine them with vegetables.

Because nuts are oily and heavy, the fiber in vegetables acts like a sponge, absorbing the oiliness and aiding digestion.

So instead of eating nuts alone, sprinkle them over a salad or cooked vegetables.

Another great way to enjoy and digest nuts better is to turn them into a delicious smoothie:

Ingredients:

10 soaked and peeled pistachios, cashews, or almonds+ 1 cup warm water+1 date+ A pinch of saffron+2 pinches of cardamom+1 pinch of dried rose petals (rose powder)+ 1–2 teaspoons of honey

Blend everything well and enjoy it as a healthy snack.

If you really want to eat nuts plain, add a teaspoon of honey, a pinch of cardamom or cinnamon, and a pinch of rose powder to 6–7 nuts, and have them with a cup of herbal tea.
