Menstruation and Its Don’ts
Do you know what things we should avoid during our period?
During menstruation, our body becomes active in order to push part of the uterine lining out of the body in the form of bleeding, using a downward movement. Therefore, anything that interferes with this downward movement is not appropriate during this time. These kinds of actions can cause imbalance in the pelvic region.
Here are the actions that fall under the category of “don’ts” during your period:
- Avoid lying down or being in a horizontal position during the day (lying flat disrupts the downward movement of blood).
- Strongly avoid having sexual intercourse (during intercourse, an upward movement is created in the vaginal canal).
- Avoid any kind of oil massage.
- Avoid excessive bathing and immersing yourself in water.
- Avoid any heavy physical activity or strenuous exercise.
It’s better to avoid meditation, prayer, yoga poses (unless they intensify the downward movement in the pelvic area), or any spiritual practice during this time. That’s because the ultimate aim of all these practices is to create an upward movement and elevate the body and spirit. But during menstruation, the body is trying to create a strong downward movement in the pelvic area.
