The Magic of Digestion

Vajrasana

Is your digestion slow? Do you often feel bloated or have irregular bowel movements? Don’t feel like exercising or doing complicated yoga poses and looking for an easy solution?

There is a magical posture called Vajrasana, which literally means thunderbolt. At first glance, it may look like a simple sitting position that doesn’t seem to do much. You might think, “It’s just sitting on my knees! How could that possibly help my digestion?”

In the body, there are several points called marma points. These points carry vital life energy throughout the body. Stimulating each one activates certain organs and balances their natural qualities such as warmth, coldness, moisture, and dryness.

When you sit in Vajrasana, you stimulate several marma points in the lower body, such as Sphij, Indra basta posterior, and Gulpa medial.

When these points are activated, here’s what happens in the body:

* Intestinal movements (peristalsis) are stimulated, improving digestion

* Accumulated toxins in the colon start moving downward

* Bowel movements become easier

* Trapped gas in the pelvic area is released, reducing bloating

* Menstrual cycles become more regular

* Blood circulation in the lower body increases

* Kidney function becomes balanced

* Swelling and water retention in the legs decrease

* It helps relieve sciatica pain

* The root chakra (Muladhara) becomes balanced

* Vata and Kapha doshas are harmonized

 When to Practice

If you suffer from constipation, sit in Vajrasana in the morning after drinking a large glass of warm water mixed with a few drops of lemon, a pinch of salt, and a teaspoon of honey. Stay in this position for five to twenty minutes and meditate. This practice activates the digestive fire (Agni) and promotes the downward movement of stool through the intestines.

If your digestion is slow, sit in Vajrasana for five to twenty minutes immediately after meals. This helps the body digest food more efficiently and reduces bloating.

 Important Points

1. Keep your spine straight and avoid slouching.

2. While in the position, take deep, mindful abdominal breaths.

 What Else Can Help Digestion?

Instead of chewing gum, try making this natural chewable digestive mix.

Ingredients:

Mix 1: 2 cups fennel seeds, 1 cup cumin seeds, 1 cup coriander seeds

Mix 2: 3 cups fennel seeds, 1 cup coriander seeds

1 teaspoon pomegranate paste

3 teaspoons grape syrup

Rosewater as needed

Olive oil

Spices: saffron, cardamom, rose petals

Instructions:

In a large pan, heat olive oil with saffron, cardamom, and rose petals. Add one of the mixes and sauté lightly. Sprinkle a pinch of salt.

In a cup of warm water, dissolve the pomegranate paste and grape syrup completely, then pour it into the pan. Add a bit of rosewater and let it simmer until the mixture thickens and the water evaporates. Stir continuously to prevent burning.

The result is a sticky, aromatic paste. Once cooled, store it in the refrigerator for two to three weeks. Take a small pinch every half hour, chew it slowly, and swallow once fully ground.

This mix reduces bloating, boosts digestive fire, supports weight management, and strengthens teeth.
