The Benefits of Chewing Plant Seeds

by Setareh Kiumarsi

Did you know that chewing plant seeds (like a few fennel seeds, a single green cardamom pod, or one or two cloves) after a meal not only supports digestion but also acts like a natural toothbrush, cleaning your teeth?

Chewing these seeds is one of the most effective natural remedies for bad breath. After your meal, chew a few seeds every half an hour to an hour, and when you’re done chewing, swallow them!

In addition to chewing whole seeds, you can also prepare a chewable digestive mix. You can find the recipe for this mix in the Iranian-Ayurvedic Cooking section of our website. This mix helps reduce bloating, stokes the digestive fire, supports weight loss, and is great for your teeth! Once you make it, you can store it in the fridge for 2–3 weeks. Each day, put a small amount in a bowl and keep it handy. Every half hour, take one or two pinches, chew thoroughly until it’s powdered in your mouth, and then swallow it. You can enjoy this mix any time you like.
