Bread… a sticky ball of phlegm! Usually, when we want to eat something light or decide to lose weight, we turn to bread-based foods.
But did you know that among different grains (rice, wheat, barley, oats, rye, etc.), wheat is the heaviest, stickiest, most phlegm-producing, and most fattening?
Every time you take a piece of bread and eat it… you fill your digestive tract with a sticky… phlegmy substance… and it’s even worse if the bread is made from white flour. Breads like Baguette, or white toast become thousands of times stickier and harder to digest!
Remember, white flour is equivalent to poison… so instead of bread made with white flour, The presence of bran and digestive spices like fennel, black seed, cumin, rosemary, etc., reduces stickiness and aids digestion!
How much bread should we eat per meal?
How much bread do you eat in one meal? 2–3 palm-sized pieces? 2–3 slices of toast? Or a full Barbari bread?
Put both of your hands together; this is the appropriate amount for one meal that your stomach can digest. In 90% of cases, you eat bread along with something else, so do not eat more than one palm-sized portion of bread per meal!
What balances bread…?!
Think about what you usually eat with bread: bread and cheese, a slice of bread with eggs, bread and kebab, bread and yogurt…
Bread itself is very phlegmy, sticky, and fattening. When combined with other phlegm-producing foods (like dairy or proteins), it becomes very heavy and phlegmy!
Bran and digestive spices (like black seed, cumin, fennel, rosemary, etc.) can help balance bread… but alone, they cannot digest heavily phlegm-producing combinations like bread with kebab or bread with cheese.
So what should we do? Always eat fiber-rich foods (like vegetables) along with bread… The fiber in vegetables acts like a sponge, absorbing the phlegm from the bread and helping digestion!
For example:
If you want bread with cheese, add a handful of fresh herbs to your bite.
If you want bread with yogurt, mix a handful of parsley or basil into the yogurt.
If you want bread with kebab or grilled chicken, eat it alongside cooked vegetables or a digestive salad.
