Oil Pulling and Its Benefits

by Setareh Kiumarsi

Did you know oil pulling is incredibly beneficial? It’s one of those daily self-care rituals that can make a big difference when added to your routine.

But why is oil pulling such a good habit?

During the night, bacteria and toxins accumulate in the mouth. Oil pulling helps bind these toxins to the oil molecules. When you spit the oil out, you’re also removing those harmful substances. In addition, the oil fills in micro-fissures in your teeth and oral tissues, supporting stronger and healthier teeth.

So, as part of your morning routine, right after you clean your tongue, do a session of oil pulling.

Which oil should you use for oil pulling?
You can simply mix equal parts of coconut oil and either sweet almond oil or sesame oil. Take a spoonful of this blend, gently swish it around your mouth for a few minutes, and then spit it out.

Important: Do not swallow the oil or gargle with it!

After oil pulling, it’s a great idea to rinse your mouth with a bit of warm saltwater or cooled clove tea to further cleanse and refresh the mouth.
