Mucus-Producing (Productive) Cough
Has your cough become chronic? Do you expel white, yellow, or green mucus when you cough?
Use the following home remedies throughout the day:
Herbal tea for productive coughs:
Mix the following herbs (whole, not powdered) in the specified proportions. If one of the herbs is larger in size, break it into smaller pieces to match the others:
- Thyme (2 parts) + Pennyroyal (1 part) + Coriander seeds (½ part) + Rose petals (½ part)
Each time you prepare the tea, add 1 tsp of the mixture to a cup of boiling water and let it steep. After steeping, add a few drops of lemon juice and 1 tsp of honey. Drink this tea 4–5 times a day between meals.
Turnip:
Eat baked apple or a mixture of baked apple and turnip 3–4 times daily.
Sip the water from boiled turnip in small amounts.
Chew 1–2 cloves or whole cardamom pods like gum every 1–2 hours and swallow them at the end.
Eat 1–2 radishes with your meals.
At night and throughout the day, apply Vicks, ginger oil, or black seed oil to your throat, chest, and shoulders. Cover the area with cotton and wear a tight-fitting undershirt.
Foods to avoid for one week:
White flour products (e.g., white bread, pasta, lasagna, pizza, cakes, pastries), sugar, cream, cheese, yogurt, whey, bananas, very sweet fruits like dates, sour foods (e.g., vinegar, verjuice, fruit leather, sour plums, citrus), mayonnaise, ketchup, peanuts, cashews, chocolate, red meat, salted meats, sausages, and processed meats.
Dry Cough
Has your dry cough been bothering you constantly?
Use the following home remedies throughout the day:
Herbal tea for dry coughs:
Mix the following herbs (whole, not powdered) in the specified proportions. If one of the herbs is larger, break it into pieces to match the others:
- Thyme (3 parts) + Teffseeds (½ part) + Jujube (½ part) + Quince seeds (½ part)
Each time you prepare the tea, add 1 tsp of the mixture to a cup of boiling water and let it steep. After steeping, add a few drops of lemon juice and 1 tsp of honey. Drink this tea 4–5 times a day between meals.
Another remedy:
1 cup boiling water + ½ tsp fennel powder + ¼ tsp licorice powder + a few drops of lemon juice + 1 tsp honey. After steeping, sip a few mouthfuls every 5 minutes (2–3 times a day).
Dried apricot slices:
Soak 2–3 dried apricot slices, sprinkle with a pinch or two of black pepper, and enjoy once or twice daily.
Garlic-milk remedy:
Chop 1 clove of garlic and place it in a pot with 1 cup of milk and ½ cup water. Let it simmer until half the water evaporates. Blend the remaining milk with 10 soaked and peeled almonds and 1–2 tsp honey. Drink it on an empty stomach — do not consume it after meals.
At night and throughout the day, apply sweet almond oil to your throat, chest, and shoulders. Cover with cotton and wear a tight-fitting undershirt.
Steam your face and chest with hot water 2–3 times daily for 10–15 minutes each time.
