Is your mouth tasting bad? Do you feel like your breath smells no matter how often you brush your teeth?
In most cases, bad breath is caused by the accumulation of toxins in the digestive tract. In other words, the process of digesting, absorbing, and eliminating food is not happening properly, which leads to toxic waste building up and rotting inside the digestive system. This is why individuals with chronic constipation are more prone to bad breath.
To treat this problem at its root, you absolutely need to tailor your diet and lifestyle to your body constitution (dosha) and cleanse your body of toxins. But what are some quick solutions to reduce bad breath and unpleasant taste?
1. Clean Your Tongue
Every morning, use a spoon or a tongue scraper to clean the coating on your tongue 7 to 14 times. (Brushing the tongue with a toothbrush is not effective—this coating must be removed from the mouth.)
2. Practice Oil Pulling Daily
Do oil pulling every morning on an empty stomach using sesame or coconut oil.
3. Natural Chewables for Immediate Relief
Whenever your mouth feels particularly bad-tasting, chew a few cloves, one cardamom pod, or ½ teaspoon of fennel seeds like gum, and swallow them at the end. Follow with a glass of warm water.
If you have time, prepare a chewable mixture with these ingredients and chew a pinch every 30–60 minutes.
4. Fresh Herbs Help Too
Chewing fresh parsley, basil, or tarragon can also cleanse the mouth. Chew them well like gum and swallow them at the end.
