Fatty Liver… Dietary Restrictions
Is your liver fatty?
Eliminate solid fats, industrial oils, and margarine (vegetable butter) from your diet. That means: no fast food, fried foods, or greasy restaurant meals. Instead, use easily digestible oils like coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil, grape seed oil, avocado oil, and so on.
Ice-cold water and drinks are your liver’s worst enemy. Our body prefers liquids and foods to be at or slightly warmer than internal body temperature. So always drink lukewarm or warm water.
Consuming alcohol, caffeinated drinks (coffee, instant coffee, tea, etc.), marijuana, and cigarettes all worsen liver conditions.
Minimize the following foods:
Pickled items (with vinegar, verjuice), sour fruits (like sour plums, green plums, sour cherries), sweets and desserts with sugar, white flour (like pasta, white bread), cheese, cream, yogurt, cold and thick ayran, beef, veal, pork, liver, organ meats, egg yolk, chips, and cheese puffs.
In the next section, I’ll share home remedies for fatty liver.
Liver Detox Diet
Have a fatty liver?
Incorporate these foods into your daily diet:
Turmeric, fenugreek seeds, fenugreek leaves, carrots, beets, celery (cooked and seasoned), cilantro (cooked and seasoned), broccoli (cooked and seasoned), apples (cooked and seasoned), apple juice, olive oil.
Once a week, try this one-day liver detox regimen:
Wake up around 6 a.m. Start your day with a large glass of warm water mixed with 2 pinches turmeric, 1 pinch coriander seed, a few drops of lemon juice, and 1 pinch salt.
Half an hour later, drink a glass of carrot/celery or carrot/apple juice (carrot should be 3 times the amount of celery or apple).
For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, eat a bowl of liver detox soup. Sauté some onion in a bit of olive oil. Add a little saffron, turmeric, and coriander seeds. Drop in a small piece of chicken breast (if you’re vegetarian, skip the chicken and add 20 soaked and peeled almonds instead). Then add carrot, parsley, scallion, cilantro, and celery. The amount of carrot and parsley should be twice that of cilantro and celery. Add some quinoa and rolled oats to the soup. Again, season with saffron, turmeric, and coriander seeds. Make sure about 70% of your pot is vegetables, and 30% is chicken and quinoa. Add lemon juice to taste.
Between meals, drink a glass of Ananda liver detox tea every hour. If preparing that is difficult, just drink warm water with a few drops of lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey.
If you feel hungry, eat a bowl of stewed apple and 1–2 dried apricots.
If you’re in Iran, get the following herbal distillates from an herbal shop. Mix them in a bottle in the proportions below and drink 1/4 glass of the mix every six hours during the detox:
Milk thistle distillate (2 parts) + chicory distillate (1 part) + fumitory distillate (1 part)
This regimen may lower blood pressure in some people. If your blood pressure is generally low, add 2 parts lemon balm distillate to the above mix.
You can follow this detox plan for up to three days depending on your strength and stamina.
