Cough

Bhramari-Pranayama

Bhujangasana – Bhramari

Caught a cold again? You fought it with all your strength, finally beat it, but that cough just won’t go away?

By practicing Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), your chest expands, the intercostal muscles strengthen, your lung capacity increases, and the amount of prana (vital energy) entering the body grows. What else happens? With deep inhalations and exhalations during this pose, oxygen reaches the lower parts of the lungs, carbon dioxide is expelled, and old mucus and toxins stuck to the bronchial walls loosen and leave the body, helping to cleanse the lungs.

By practicing the Bhramari breathing technique (Bhramari Pranayama), a gentle vibration is created in the throat and chest, helping old mucus move upward and accelerating the cleansing process of the lungs.

What else can you do?

Drink the following tea once or twice a day for 5–7 days:

Add one teaspoon of freshly chopped ginger to a cup of boiling water and place a licorice tea bag (or dried licorice root) in it. After steeping, add a few drops of lemon juice and one teaspoon of honey.

A few important notes:

This tea can increase blood pressure, so if you have high blood pressure, drink it cautiously.

It’s a strong tea and prolonged use can cause side effects — stop using it once the symptoms improve.

Another tip:

Expectorant anti-cough tea:

Mix the following herbs (whole, not powdered) in the given proportions in a container. If any herb is too large, break it into smaller pieces by hand so the blend is even:

Thyme (2 parts) + Pennyroyal (1 part) + Coriander seeds (½ part) + Rose petals (½ part)

Each time you prepare the tea, add one teaspoon of this blend to a cup of boiling water and let it steep. After steeping, add a few drops of lemon juice and one teaspoon of honey. Drink this tea 4–5 times a day between meals.

Eat cooked apples or cooked apple-and-turnip mix 3–4 times daily (for the recipe, check the home remedy for cold).

Sip the water from boiled turnips slowly throughout the day.

Chew 1–2 cloves or cardamom pods every couple of hours and swallow them at the end.

Eat 1–2 radishes with your meals.
