What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is an autoimmune skin disease.
– In autoimmune diseases, the immune system becomes overactive. This excessive activity leads to inflammation in different parts of the body; and in the affected organ, the immune system mistakenly begins to damage the body’s own cells.
– In psoriasis, white blood cells — or T-lymphocytes (T Cells) — mistakenly attack skin cells. This incorrect attack makes the skin cells multiply too quickly, pile up on each other, and create inflamed, raised patches of skin covered with silvery scales in different parts of the body such as the scalp, elbows, or knees.
To treat psoriasis from the root, it’s very important to change your diet and lifestyle. In the ten previous posts we discussed the autoimmune diet in detail.
But alongside dietary changes, how can we support our skin topically and soothe it?
– Avoid exposing yourself and the affected skin to direct sunlight.
– Combine the following herbal powders in the ratios listed:
Turmeric (3) + Sidr (1) + Myrtle (1) + Marshmallow root (1) + Colorless henna (1)
(Those living outside of Iran who can’t access some of these herbs can replace Sidr with coriander seed or neem, replace myrtle with chickpea flour or oat flour, and replace marshmallow with psyllium husk.)
– Once or twice a day, mix 1 teaspoon of this blend with some warm water to make a loose paste. Apply it to the affected areas of your skin and leave it on for 15–20 minutes. Then rinse your skin and moisturize with fresh aloe vera gel, cucumber slices, or thin slices of raw potato.
– Where do we get fresh aloe vera gel? All herbal shops sell aloe vera leaves… You can keep one leaf in the refrigerator for a month.
– On days when you’re home and have time, cut a 1-cm slice of the leaf, scrape out the gel into a small bowl, and keep it near you. Every half hour, apply the gel to the affected areas of your skin. It restores moisture, reduces itching and inflammation, and helps repair skin cells.
– How do we treat severe dryness in psoriasis-affected skin?
– Put the following ingredients into a blender:
1 raw cucumber + 1 raw potato + 2 tablespoons fresh aloe vera gel + 1 teaspoon rosewater
– Store the resulting paste in the refrigerator and apply it once or twice a day for 15–20 minutes to the dry, affected areas of your skin.
– For moisturizing damaged skin, you can also use castor oil or myrtle oil.
– When the disease is highly active, drink the following vegetable smoothie as a snack or for breakfast:
Blend these ingredients thoroughly and drink:
1 carrot + 1 handful spinach + 1 handful cilantro + 1 handful parsley + 1 cup warm water + 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder + 1/4 teaspoon rose powder + 1–2 teaspoons lemon juice + 2–3 teaspoons honey + a pinch of salt.
– Make sure to eat one or two bowls of cooked apples or pears every day. Chop the apple or pear, put it in a pot, sprinkle cardamom and rose petals, add a little water, and let it steam… After it cools, add a little honey.
– In your daily lunch, let about 20–30% of your plate include one of the following six vegetables, fully cooked and seasoned (with spices like turmeric, saffron, fennel, and coriander seed):
Cilantro, celery, white cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, mung-bean sprouts.
– When psoriasis has flared up severely, drink this cilantro water three times a day:
Blend the following, mix well, then strain:
1 handful fresh cilantro + 1/3 cup warm water + 1/2 teaspoon fennel powder + 1 teaspoon honey.
– Drink milk thistle tea once or twice a day… or drink 1/4 cup milk-thistle distillate three times a day.
– Read the skin-cleansing diet for skin issues and follow it once a month to refresh and heal your skin
Stay full of health.
