The Start of the Day

Start your day before or with the sunrise…

But why…?

Did you know that our body’s biological clock; the rhythm of our sleep and wake cycles; is aligned with the Earth’s rotation around the sun, and therefore with light and darkness?

This means that our body wants to begin the day when the sun rises, when light returns, and it wants to shift from a horizontal state (lying down) to a vertical one (standing up).

If, when the sun rises, we’re still lying down, our metabolism slows down significantly, and the toxins that have accumulated in our digestive tract don’t move downward properly due to our position.

As a result, bowel movements are delayed, and part of the toxins may get reabsorbed into the body, settling deeper into the tissues.

The body starts to feel like a heavy stone, and waking up becomes like moving a mountain! The mind becomes sluggish, filled with inertia, and starting the day feels a thousand times harder.

So what happens if we wake up with the sunrise?

If we start our day by 6:00 or 6:30 AM at the latest, the mind is filled with freshness, vitality, and lightness.

And there’s more…

When the body rises with the light, the toxins that accumulated in the previous 24 hours begin moving downward and are ready to be expelled—through urine and bowel movements—in the early hours of the day.

And if you go a step further and wake up a little before sunrise, this time is considered one of the most energizing and spiritually potent hours of the day.
Meditation or prayer during this time fills you with clarity, purity, light, and energy.

Make a little pact with yourself. Each week, add one small, effective, healing Ayurvedic habit into your life. How does that sound?

May your mornings—and your whole being—be full of health.
